Welcome to my corner of the internet! A space where stories, houses, and ideas all collide. I’m Jake Newman: a writer, painter, and real estate agent who’s been chasing big dreams from Portland, Maine.
The Portland Logbook is where I put it all together. It’s a locals-first newsletter about the city I call home: the food, the music, the history tucked into back alleys, the little moments that make Portland worth loving. It’s part guide, part journal, and part experiment in seeing how far curiosity can take me.
Outside the Logbook, I work in real estate—helping people find their place in this city, whether that’s a saltbox by the water, a downtown condo, or a historic home that needs some love. I get the same thrill from walking a client through a house as I do from uncovering an overlooked story about Portland’s past: both are about seeing possibility where most people just see walls.
Passions run the show here. I’m drawn to art, architecture, antiques, and design. I paint most nights, I dig through flea markets, I write down the strange and beautiful things I notice. I believe in building something lasting—whether that’s a newsletter, a home, or a sense of community.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you find something here that makes you see Portland a little differently—or at least makes you want to stay awhile.
