Real Estate

Buying, selling, or just trying to figure out what comes next?

The Logbook is where I get curious about Portland. Real estate is where that curiosity becomes useful.

Buying a home here can get confusing fast. A house can be beautiful and still be wrong for you. It can look rough and be much better than it first seems. Sometimes the thing that scares you is mostly cosmetic. Sometimes the charming part is the thing that will cost the most. And sometimes, the first house you see really is the perfect one.

My job is to help you slow down, ask better questions, and figure out whether you actually want the house or just the idea of it. I’ll tell you what I see, what I would worry about, what I wouldn’t, and when I think you might be talking yourself into something.

You don’t need to have a whole plan yet. Just reach out. It comes straight to me, and I read every message myself. And if you want to talk it through over coffee, it’s on me.

Tell me what you’re thinking

What Portland Says

A few notes from readers I've helped buy or sell along the way.

"Jake recently helped us purchase our first home. He was a wonderful partner and always available and eager to show us the many places we wanted to see before finding the right one. I highly recommend him as an agent and would use him again."

  • Jessica K., East End

“I would recommend Jake Newman to anyone looking to have a pain free experience of purchasing a home in the Portland, ME area. Jake was a tremendous source of knowledge during the home purchase process, made sure I knew what I needed to do on my side, and kept me up to date right through to closing.”

  • Matthew B., North Deering

"Jake was available, attentive and clearly considerate in suggesting housing options and creating an experience where I felt that we were both seeking and finding options. There was never a lapse in communication and everything moved smoothly throughout the home search. I'll be forever grateful to Jake for his assistance in helping me find my home"

  • Derek M., North Deering
