The Best Breakfast Sandwiches in Portland Maine and Beyond: A Local’s Guide

Portlanders wake up hungry.

The fog’s still clinging to the street corners, your inbox is already filling up, and you don’t have time to cook. A good breakfast sandwich cuts through all of it, fast, hot, and exactly what your brain needs before it fully boots up.

I have been chasing them from the West End to Brunswick and beyond, crossed bridges, stood in line with wet hair, and let yolks run down my wrist more times than I care to admit. These spots aren’t just good. They’re the reason to get out the door.

This guide’s too big to fit in one email. I didn’t want to cut it short, so the full thing lives at the link below, yolk drips, rankings, all of it.

The Portland Logbook just crossed a milestone: over 5% of this city is reading along. Whether you signed up over coffee at Tandem or while killing time in the Hannaford checkout line, I’m glad you’re here.

It’s been 22 weeks, every single one without a miss. Between travel, my day job, and everything in between, it hasn’t exactly been easy. But it’s been worth it. I’ll keep sending what matters: foggy mornings on the working waterfront, corner stores with better sandwiches than they have any right to, neighborhood legends hiding in plain sight. More events are coming. A few strange, wonderful ideas are in the works too.

My inbox is always open, though if I’m slow to respond, I’m probably waist-deep in the bay, trying to figure out if clamming counts as cardio.

Plenty more where this came from.

If you’ve got a friend who’d love this, send it their way!

🐾 Adoptable Buddies of the Week! 🐾

🐶 Rangely – Puppy, 15.5 lbs and growing
Full of energy and looking for a home ready to raise a pup right. Rangely is sweet, curious, and learning fast. If you’ve got patience and love to give, this little one could be your perfect match.

🐶 Skunk – 1 year old, 43 lbs
Gentle, social, and seriously underrated. Skunk loves other dogs and thrives in calm, kind homes. He’s ready to be your walking buddy, couch buddy, and everything-in-between buddy.

🐱 Zesti – 5 years old
Spunky, affectionate, and a total staff favorite. Zesti is the kind of cat who makes herself at home fast. She’s looking for a person to hang with, nap near, and maybe boss around just a little.

🏚️ For Sale This Week (Because It’s Too Weird Not to Share)

172 State Street - Ever dreamed of owning a funeral home? No judgment. The 1900 brick building at 172 State Street, complete with chapel, crematory, and some very serious window curtains, is up for grabs. It’s big, dramatic, and probably not haunted. Probably.
