The city always slows down this time of year. It feels calm for a minute, and then suddenly everyone in Portland is sprinting around trying to lock down pies, turkeys, flowers, oysters, candles, something gluten-free for their cousin Maya, and whatever they forgot until ten at night.
This is the holiday Portland was built for. Everything here feels close to the source. Good bread. Real pies. Small farms. Local counters where someone knows your name. The scramble doesn’t feel chaotic. It feels like part of the whole thing.
I pulled together what I think you actually need. Call it the Thanksgiving Source Book, the short list of places worth trusting.

The Menu
I’m not reinventing anything. This holiday wants the classics.
A turkey that didn’t spend its whole life shrink-wrapped and confused.
Oyster dressing because cold Maine water does something to flavor you can’t fake.
Sweet potatoes that don’t hit like a dessert buffet.
A pie that actually tastes like November.
A bottle of wine that loosens everyone up just enough.
Where To Get Everything
This city is ridiculous when it comes to food. You just have to know where to point the car.

Pies
Order deadlines hit fast. A lot of these sell out by the 20–22 window.
Turkeys
If you want a local bird, jump now. They move quick.
Bread + Rolls
Thanksgiving morning without good bread feels illegal.
Cheese + Spices
A good board is crowd control.
Oysters
If you’re shucking, get them early.
Wine
Thanksgiving deserves better than a panic-grabbed bottle.

Non Edibles
Stuff you can’t eat unless you’re really committed to proving a point.

The Full Statewide Directory

If you’re looking for the full Maine-wide list, the directory is linked below for anyone planning a holiday that stretches beyond Portland.
A Small Note
Somewhere between slicing the turkey and diving into the pie, the room changes a little. Someone cracks a joke. Someone swipes the last roll. Someone tops off your wine before you even ask. It’s quick, quiet, and somehow the part that stays with you after everyone goes home.
Thank you for letting me be part of your week. I don’t take that lightly. Every time you open The Logbook, it reminds me why I do this in the first place.
Happy Thanksgiving.
- Jake
